No-Bake Chocolate Trifle

Prep Time: 20 minutes
Chill Time: 2 hours
Total Time: 2 hours 20 minutes
Servings: 12
Course: Dessert
Cuisine: American
Method: No-Bake
Ingredients
1 prepared chocolate cake or batch of brownies, cut into 1-inch cubes
2 packages instant chocolate pudding mix
Cold milk, according to pudding package directions
16 oz whipped topping, thawed
15–20 chocolate sandwich cookies, roughly crushed
1 cup chocolate chips or mini chocolate chips
½ cup chocolate syrup
Chocolate curls or shavings, for garnish
Instructions
Prepare the pudding: Whisk the chocolate pudding mix with cold milk according to the package directions. Let it thicken, then refrigerate while you prepare the remaining ingredients.
Prepare the cake: Cut the prepared chocolate cake or brownies into bite-size cubes.
Prepare the cookies: Roughly crush the chocolate sandwich cookies, leaving a few larger pieces for texture and garnish.
Start layering: Arrange a layer of chocolate cake or brownie cubes in the bottom of a large clear trifle bowl.
Add the creamy layers: Spoon chocolate pudding over the cake, followed by a layer of whipped topping.
Add the chocolate: Sprinkle with crushed cookies and chocolate chips, then lightly drizzle with chocolate syrup.
Repeat: Continue layering cake, pudding, whipped topping, cookies, chocolate chips, and syrup until the bowl is filled.
Decorate: Finish with whipped topping, chocolate curls, crushed cookies, and extra chocolate chips or a drizzle of chocolate syrup.
Chill: Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving.
Serve: Scoop into individual dessert bowls and serve chilled.
Recipe Notes
Brownies create a richer, fudgier trifle, while chocolate cake gives you a lighter texture.
Make sure the pudding is thick and cold before assembling the layers.
For extra crunch, add some of the crushed cookies immediately before serving.
You can prepare the trifle the night before and refrigerate it until you're ready to serve.
Try adding sliced strawberries, caramel sauce, peanut butter cups, or extra chocolate pieces for different variations.
Storage
Cover leftover No-Bake Chocolate Trifle tightly and keep it refrigerated. For the best texture, enjoy it within a few days. The cake and cookies will gradually become softer as they absorb moisture from the pudding and whipped topping.
Freezing is not recommended, as the pudding and whipped layers may change texture after thawing.
