French Onion Ground Beef & Rice Casserole

🛒 Ingredients (Serves 6)
For the Beef & Rice
1 lb ground beef
2 medium yellow onions, thinly sliced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 ½ cups cooked white rice
1 cup beef broth
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp dried thyme
Salt & black pepper, to taste
For the Creamy Layer
1 (10.5 oz) can condensed French onion soup
½ cup sour cream
For the Topping
1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella
1 cup shredded Swiss cheese (or Gruyère if preferred)
2 tbsp chopped fresh parsley
👩‍🍳 Instructions
1️⃣ Preheat
Preheat oven to 375°F. Lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
2️⃣ Caramelize the Onions
In a large skillet over medium heat, cook sliced onions with a drizzle of oil for 15–20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until soft and golden brown.
Add garlic and cook 30 seconds more.
3️⃣ Cook the Beef
Add ground beef to the skillet. Cook until browned.
Drain excess grease if needed.
Stir in Worcestershire sauce, thyme, salt, and pepper.
4️⃣ Combine
Stir in cooked rice, beef broth, condensed French onion soup, and sour cream.
Mix until well combined and heated through.
5️⃣ Bake
Transfer mixture to prepared baking dish.
Top evenly with mozzarella and Swiss cheese.
Bake uncovered for 20–25 minutes, until cheese is melted and bubbly.
6️⃣ Finish
Broil 2–3 minutes for a golden top if desired.
Sprinkle with fresh parsley before serving.
