Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 6–8 hours on LOW or 3–4 hours on HIGH
Total Time: About 6 hours 15 minutes
Servings: 6
Course: Main Course
Cuisine: American
Method: Slow Cooker
Ingredients
3–4 lbs baby back ribs
1½ cups barbecue sauce, plus extra for finishing
2 tablespoons brown sugar
2 teaspoons smoked paprika
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon chili powder
1 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon black pepper
1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
Instructions
Prepare the ribs: Pat the ribs dry with paper towels. Remove the thin membrane from the back of the ribs if necessary. Cut the rack into 2–3 sections so it fits comfortably inside your slow cooker.
Make the dry rub: In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder, salt, and black pepper.
Season the ribs: Rub the seasoning mixture generously over both sides of the ribs.
Prepare the BBQ sauce: Mix the barbecue sauce, apple cider vinegar, and Worcestershire sauce in a small bowl.
Add to the Crockpot: Arrange the seasoned ribs inside your slow cooker. Brush or pour the barbecue sauce mixture evenly over the ribs.
Slow cook: Cover and cook on LOW for approximately 6–8 hours or HIGH for approximately 3–4 hours, until the ribs are tender. Cooking time can vary depending on the thickness of the ribs and your slow cooker.
Add more BBQ sauce: Carefully transfer the cooked ribs to a foil-lined baking sheet. Brush them generously with additional barbecue sauce.
Broil: Place the ribs under the broiler briefly until the barbecue sauce is bubbling, sticky, and lightly caramelized. Watch them closely so the sauce doesn't burn.
Serve: Let the ribs rest briefly, then cut between the bones and serve warm with extra barbecue sauce if desired.
Tips for the Best Crockpot Barbecue Ribs
Remove the membrane for a more tender texture.
Don't add excessive liquid; the ribs release juices while cooking.
Cooking on LOW gives the ribs plenty of time to become tender.
Handle the cooked ribs carefully because they can become very soft.
Don't skip the final broiling step if you want a sticky, caramelized BBQ finish.
Choose your favorite smoky, sweet, spicy, or tangy barbecue sauce to customize the flavor.
Storage
Store leftover ribs in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3–4 days. Reheat them with a little additional barbecue sauce to help keep the meat moist.
Freezing
Place cooled ribs in a freezer-safe container or freezer bag. For best quality, use them within approximately 2–3 months.
