Ingredients
4 large crisp apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, Fuji, or Pink Lady)
11 ounces soft caramel candies, unwrapped
2 tablespoons heavy cream
Optional Toppings
½ cup melted milk chocolate
½ cup melted white chocolate
½ cup mini chocolate chips
½ cup chopped pecans
½ cup chopped peanuts
½ cup toffee bits
½ cup rainbow sprinkles
¼ cup crushed pretzels
Flaky sea salt, for sprinkling
Instructions
Wash the apples thoroughly and dry them completely. Slice each apple into ½-inch thick rings and remove the center using an apple corer or small round cutter.
Pat each apple ring dry with paper towels to remove any remaining moisture. This helps the caramel stick better.
Place the caramel candies and heavy cream in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring after each interval until the caramel is smooth and fully melted. You can also melt the caramel over low heat on the stovetop.
Dip each apple ring into the melted caramel, coating one side or both sides as desired. Let any excess caramel drip back into the bowl.
Immediately place the caramel-coated apple rings onto a parchment-lined baking sheet.
While the caramel is still soft, sprinkle your favorite toppings over each apple ring. Mix and match toppings for a fun variety.
If desired, drizzle melted milk or white chocolate over the decorated apple rings.
Refrigerate for 20 to 30 minutes, or until the caramel has completely set.
Serve chilled or let the apple rings sit at room temperature for about 5 minutes before serving for the best texture.
Recipe Tips
Dry the apple slices thoroughly before dipping.
Chill the apples before coating to help the caramel set faster.
Use firm, crisp apples for the best texture.
Decorate each apple ring immediately before the caramel hardens.
Line your baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup.
Variations
Add flaky sea salt for Salted Caramel Apple Rings.
Drizzle with dark chocolate for a richer flavor.
Sprinkle with crushed cookies for extra crunch.
Add cinnamon sugar for a warm fall twist.
Use chopped pistachios or almonds for a gourmet finish.
Storage
Store Caramel Apple Rings in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Place parchment paper between layers if stacking. Freezing is not recommended, as the apples may become watery once thawed.
