Apple Pie Filling Recipe: A Simple Step-by-Step Guide

Ingredients:
6-7 medium apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
1 tbsp lemon juice
2 tbsp cornstarch
2 tbsp butter
Pinch of salt
Instructions:
Prepare the ApplesPeel, core, and slice the apples into about 1/4-inch thick slices. Toss them with 1 tablespoon of lemon juice to prevent browning.
Mix Dry IngredientsIn a separate bowl, combine the granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and cornstarch. Stir until well mixed.
Coat the ApplesSprinkle the dry mixture over the apples and toss gently until the apples are evenly coated.
Cook the FillingIn a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the apple mixture and cook, stirring frequently, until the apples soften and the filling thickens, about 10 minutes.
Cool the FillingOnce the filling has thickened, remove from the heat and let it cool to room temperature before adding it to your pie crust.
Tips:
Use a mix of tart and sweet apples for the best flavor balance.
Allow the filling to cool before placing it in your pie to avoid a soggy crust.
If you prefer a thicker filling, add more cornstarch (up to 3 tbsp).
Enjoy your homemade apple pie filling!
